Island War takes heavy inspiration from Clash of Clans. Some defensive structures and warriors even share similar names, and the goal is familiar: raid your opponents and destroy everything they have built. The difference is that your targets are islands.

Each raid starts with your ships sailing toward an enemy island before your troops land. You must defeat the defending soldiers first, which is a real challenge. Once they fall, smashing the remaining defenses and capturing the island becomes much easier.

A weather system adds another layer. Every attack has a strict two-minute limit, and the weather can slow your troops down or speed them up. Controls are simple: tap where enemies are on screen and your warriors handle the rest. There is no tutorial, but the game is easy enough to learn as you play.

Modes, army and defenses

You begin with sword fighters, then add archers and later unlock units such as wizards and dragons. Warriors of the same type can be merged into bigger, stronger units, so a swordsman only merges with another swordsman.

Winning battles earns XP, trophies, gold and logs. Gold buys character cards and special cards, while logs pay for a wide range of upgrades. To protect your own island, you can build walls, archer towers, bombs and other fortifications.

The game currently includes three modes: Standard, Event and Clan, with the developers planning more, such as a Hero mode. You can also ally with other captains to rule the seas, all presented in an appealing low poly art style.
