Antarctica 88 story and gameplay

You play an agent sent by the former Soviet Union to Antarctica as part of a rescue team. Your goal is to find a group of researchers who had been working on a project at a remote base called Area 88, built far from the other stations on the continent.

Everything seems fine until you suddenly wake up in a corner of the area, apparently after passing out. Nothing is where it should be, and it is clear something terrible has happened. You grab a weapon and follow the opening tutorial hints to check on the base.

When you arrive, the base is covered in blood and your colleagues are gone. Soon you discover strange, mutated monsters that attack humans on sight. As possibly the last survivor, you must gather documents and evidence and destroy these creatures to make it out alive.

The game is a first-person shooter. You move with a virtual joystick and interact with items using dedicated buttons, and the smooth controls suit quick shooting and movement through tight corridors.

Content and challenges

Antarctica 88 follows a linear survival story that slowly uncovers the secrets of the abandoned base and the hidden experiments carried out there. Stages are tough and resources are limited, so ammo management and fast, careful decisions matter.

Enemies are smart and unpredictable, striking suddenly from dark corners. To fight back you get a range of upgradeable weapons suited to large monsters, plus simple but essential environmental puzzles that open locked areas.

Detailed 3D graphics, cold harsh lighting and eerie sound design build a tense atmosphere that makes the frozen setting feel real.
