Night Book is a polished and engaging adventure game from Wales Interactive. This interactive game, inspired by a film, is, like other titles from this studio, available as a free demo. Wales Interactive is renowned for its specialization in interactive adventure games. All of this Welsh company’s games share a unique visual style. For several years now, so-called “interactive and film-inspired” games have enjoyed great success. These games, far from being traditional, offer an immersive and cinematic experience. The player takes on the role of a character who influences the course of the story after having watched a film.

Night Book is an interactive game whose narrative unfolds like a film. By installing this game, as well as other similar titles of the same genre, you download a movie and follow all its scenes and sequences filmed by real actors. As the story progresses and you discover the characters in the game—or rather, the film—you will sometimes have to make choices. In reality, it is usually the main characters who make these decisions. Each choice you make in the various situations of the story changes the course of the narrative. Night Book is very well designed in this respect: the story evolves according to your choices, which suggests several possible endings. The story of Night Book is that of Loralyn, a young woman who works as an online translator. Loralyn simultaneously translates videos from English to French and vice versa on the internet. One night, a stranger entices her to read an ancient and forbidden book. Loralyn, ignorant of everything, reads this book and, by following its precepts, attracts an ancient demon into her home. Pregnant, Loralyn lives alone with her father, who suffers from severe mental illness. The arrival of this demon has made her life even more difficult. To protect her family from this threat, she must make a heartbreaking decision and sacrifice someone to this ancient curse.
